Many early casinos were run by mobster families, primarily in Reno and Las Vegas. Mafia money helped give these institutions a glamorous veneer, but it was often used to fund organized crime activities. Mobster money flowed into casinos even as legitimate businessmen feared getting involved with gambling’s seamy image.
